JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Carson-Newmans home basketball doubleheader with Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday has been designated as Skivvies for Haiti Night.
The Lady Eagles and Eagles tip off against the Bears at 6 and 8 p.m., respectively, at Holt Fieldhouse. All kids 12 and under will be admitted free with the donation of underwear sizes 2-14 that will go to the children of Haiti, who are in serious need of help after last Tuesdays devastating earthquake.
Collection boxes at Saturdays games will be located at the entrance of Holt Fieldhouse. Cash donations will be accepted as well.
Courtlyn Walsh, the 5-year-old daughter of C-N womens basketball coach Dean Walsh, came up with the idea after learning that only one out of every 150 Haitian children have appropriate underwear. Courtlyns goal is to collect as many pairs of boys and girls underwear sizes 2-14 as possible.
Courtlyn and her mother, Courtney, have also set up drop-off locations at First Baptist Church in Jefferson City and The White Balloon located in The Gallery Shopping Center in Knoxville.
Saturday wont be the only opportunity to make donations at C-N. Children 12 and under have the opportunity to receive free admission to any of C-Ns remaining regular season home games upon receipt of an underwear donation.
