Lady Eagles finish third at Southeast Regional Championships
HICKORY, N.C. -- The Carson-Newman women's track team claimed third place in the Southeast Regional Championships over the weekend at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.

HICKORY, N.C. -- The Carson-Newman women's track team claimed third place in the Southeast Regional Championships over the weekend at Irwin Belk Track on the campus of Lenoir-Rhyne University.
The Lady Eagles turned in a score of 99, while UNC Pembroke (147) and Lees McRae (112) finished in first and second place, respectively. C-N had the best score out of all the participating South Atlantic Conference schools, as it edged out Mars Hill (96) for the top spot.
The Lady Eagles set several new school records during the meet. Junior Catelyn Dake (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished first in the SAC and third in the region in the 400-meter dash by breaking her own school record, which she set two weeks ago.
Dake teamed up with Cara Hawkins (Murfreesboro, Tenn.), Kellan Clay (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and Jenn Wiley (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) to finish first in the SAC and third in the region in the 4 x 400 meter relay, breaking the old school record set on April 21, 2007.
The C-N 4 x 100 meter relay team of Brittany Sealey (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Charlita Russell (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Chelsie Woods (Bristol, Va.) and Markia Johnson (Chattanooga, Tenn.) captured first place in the SAC and second in the region and also set a school record by beating the old mark set on April 22, 2005.
Other strong Lady Eagle performers were: Kelsey Fleck (Celina, Ohio) as she finished first in the SAC and second in the region in the javelin, sixth in the region in the high jump and first in the SAC and second in the region in the shot put; Haley Bush (Spartanburg, S.C.) placed second in the SAC and third in the region in the javelin and fourth in the SAC in the shot put; Woods claimed second in the SAC and fourth in the region in the long jump and third in the SAC and third in the region in the high jump; Sealey captured third in the SAC and sixth in the region in the long jump and second in the SAC and fourth in the region in the 100-meter dash; Russell placed eighth in the region in the long jump, fourth in the SAC and seventh in the region in the 100 and third in the SAC in the 200-meter dash; Kayleigh Clark (Dandridge, Tenn.) finished fourth in the SAC in the discus; Allyson Corhn (Hendersonville, N.C.) claimed third in the SAC and region in the high jump and third in the SAC and seventh in the region in the triple jump; Hawkins placed second in the SAC and third in the region in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and fourth in the SAC in the 800 meter run; Aubrey Morris (Chattanooga, Tenn.) claimed first in the SAC and third in the region in the 1,500-meter run and second in the SAC and region in the 5,000-meter run; Dake finished first in the SAC and second in the region in the 800; Wiley claimed second in the SAC and sixth in the region in the 400; Clay finished third in the SAC and seventh in the region in the 400 and fourth in the SAC in the 200; Johnson placed third in the SAC and fifth in the region in the 100 and first in the SAC and sixth in the region in the 200; Lauren Henry (Greenville, Tenn.) claimed eighth in the region in the 5,000-meter run and third in the SAC and third in the region in the 10,000-meter run.
On the men's side, C-N junior Antonio Gomez (Brewton, Ala.) claimed second in the SAC and sixth in the region in the long jump, second in the SAC and eighth in the region in the triple jump, second in the SAC and sixth in the region in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the SAC and eighth in the region in the 400-meter hurdles.
Eagle freshman Jon Madden (Franklin, Tenn.) captured third in the SAC and third in the region in the 5,000-meter run, while the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Gomez, Rickey Harris (Morrow, Ga.), Cary Steward (Marshville, N.C.) and Mitch Russell (New Market, Tenn.) finished second in the SAC and fourth in the region.
