JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman track and field team has added another signee for the 2010 season, head coach David Needs announced today.
Rachel Logemann (St. Petersburg, Fla.) has signed with C-N and joins Johnny Myricks (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Collin Earnhardt (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.), Montrell Mitchell (South Pittsburg, Tenn.), Kartrez Bibbs (South Pittsburg, Tenn.) and Stephen Brown (Capitol Heights, Md.) in this year's signing class.
Logemann, a standout at Northside Christian School in St. Petersburg, Fla., competes in the 400-meter dash, 800-meter run and long jump. Her 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 meter relay teams recently claimed first place in the Class A District 9 Meet. Logemann also captured second in the 400 and third in the long jump. She plans to be a part of the Honors Program at C-N and major in Chemistry.
"Rachel will be an asset to our team," Needs said. "Her dedication to academics and athletics fits well with other talented runners we already have here. I can't wait to see what the next four years hold for her."
Myricks, a standout at Ooltewah High School in Chattanooga, Tenn., is the current Tennessee state champion in the 4 x 100 meter relay, 4 x 200 meter relay and the 100-meter dash.
Earnhardt claimed first place in the sub sectional in the 100-meter dash and qualified for the state meet at Mt. Juliet High School in Mt. Juliet, Tenn. She also earned Murphy Fair All-Academic honors.
Mitchell and Bibbs are two-sport standouts at South Pittsburg High School in South Pittsburg, Tenn. Both athletes committed to C-N to play football and run track.
Brown, a standout high jumper from St. Johns College High School in Washington D.C., competed at the Nike Indoor Nationals in March and will be part of the Bonner Scholarship Program at C-N.
"While in no way are we finished recruiting, I am thrilled to know that these talented student-athletes will be joining us next season," Needs said.
