EATONTON, Ga. – Carson-Newman junior Gavin Hay is tied for sixth and the No. 19 Eagles are in eighth place after 36 holes against one of the season's strongest fields at the 2012 Bobcat Invitational played Monday at the Golf Club at Cuscawilla.
The Eagles fired a combined 10-over par 570 in Monday two rounds and are two strokes back of the No. 5 University of North Alabama for seventh.
The Eagles are only seven shots out of third place in the 17-team field which features six teams ranked in the nation's Top 10 and 12 of the nation's Top 20.
C-N was second after 18 holes with three rounds under par led by Jonathan Kim-Moss's 66, one stroke shy of the day's low round.
Hay leads the Eagles with a 4-under 136 through Monday's two rounds. He opened with a 67 and followed with a 69 on the par-70 course. He is five strokes off the lead.
Kim-Moss is tied for 16th after a 141. He shot a 74 in his second round of the day.
Senior Liam Ashby is the third Eagle in the Top 20. Ashby followed his opening round 69 (-1) with a 2-over 72 and is tied for 20th.
No. 1 Barry University leads the tournament after a 554 (-6) on Monday. It leads No. 3 Nova Southeastern by three strokes.
Barry's Marcus Segerstrom leads the tournament with a 9-under par 131.
The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
