Carson-Newman won first preseason match against Milligan

MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (1-0) defeated Milligan College (2-1) in its preseason match on Sunday 6-3.

 

Juan Perez (Ecuador) and Joao Pedro Oliveira brought home the lone doubles victory in the no. 1 spot beating Colin Bumann and Seth Buckmaster 9-8.

 

Austin Mackay (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Jonathan Allen (Lenoir City, Tenn.) fought hard at no. 2 doubles but fell to Jackson Lenoir and Fernando Gonzales 9-8.

 

In singles play, Daniel Douglas (Knoxville, Tenn.) triumphed over Alex Delozier in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in the no. 6 spot.

 

At no. 1 singles, Perez won 6-1, 6-3 over Bumann. Oliveira defeated Gonzales with a 6-3, 6-2 decision in the no. 2 spot and Allen toppled Caleb Friddell 6-1, 6-2 at no. 3. In the no. 4 position, Mackay took a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Buckmaster.

 

Freshman Lee Presson narrowly lost to Lenoir at no. 5 singles after taking him to three sets resulting in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 final.

 

The Eagles will resume play on February 15th at Young-Harris at 1 p.m.
