Eagles shooting for the Stars on Wednesday afternoon

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's tennis team will look to keep their win streak alive against the University of Illinois-Springfield on Wednesday afternoon.  

Carson-Newman (3-4, 2-1) is coming off a victory against Coker on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles will look to improve to 2-0 on the season against the Great Lakes Valley Conference opponents. Illinois-Springfield (4-4) lost its last match at home against Hillsdale College 6-3.  

The Eagles are led by Joao Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) at the No.1 singles position. The senior has compiled a 5-4 record on the season and is currently on a two match win streak. Fellow countrymen Gabriel Dabdab (Brazil) has found success during his freshman campaign, acquiring a 6-3 record. The duo are also doubles partners and are currently on a three-match win streak in route to a 5-4 overall record.

Kevin Mendes (Chattanooga, Tenn.) has become the closer for the men's tennis team at the No.6 singles position. Mendes is 4-1 on the season and is currently riding a two-match win streak. Stefano Daza (Venezuela) has played in a variety of spots for the Eagles, but has acquired a 4-5 record on the year.   
The tandem of Daza and Rodolfo Schwarz (Brazil) are still trying to crack the scoreboard at No.1 doubles. The duo has begun the season 0-6 and will look to end that streak on Monday afternoon. The most consistent duo for the Eagles at No.3 doubles is Marc Bantel (German) and Jesus Bacete-Sanz (Spain) who have compiled a 3-2 record on the season.

The Stars are led by Sam Clarke who is 6-4 on the season with a 5-3 record at the No. 1 singles position. Cole Buehnerkemper is 5-3 at No. 2 singles while David Perez is 5-2 at the No. 3 singles position. The trio is responsible for 17 of the 23 singles wins on the season.

In doubles play the Stars have found some success at No. 1 doubles with the tandem of Buehnerkemper and Clarke are currently on a three game winning streak going into Wednesday's matchup. In No. 2 doubles the duo of Riley Muren and Perez are on a two-match winning streak.
