SALISBURY, N.C. – Carson-Newman junior Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) finish tied for third place and C-N carded a team 312 (+24) to take second at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, played Tuesday at the Country Club of Salisbury.
Manis' 1-over 73 in Tuesday's final round put her at 148 (+4) for the tournament. She finishes with her best performance in her collegiate career. She closed three strokes back of North Carolina State's Lindsay McGetrick, who won at 1-over par.
Carson-Newman (619) finished behind tournament champion Newberry, which shot 601 (+13) for the two days. The Lady Eagles beat Tusculum College by nine shots to finish in the second spot of the 15-team field.
Tusculum (628), Columbus State (631), Queens (637), Wingate (642), Lincoln Memorial (643), Anderson (S.C.) (664), Catawba (669), and North Greenville (677) round out the top ten.
Sophomore Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) added another top 10 finish to her season, tying for ninth at 153 (+9). She slipped to an 81 on Tuesday after opening the tournament with an even-par 72 on Monday.
Senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) and sophomore Louise McGillivray (Banchory, Scotland) tied for 20th with a two-day total of 159 (+15). Ray rallied with a 77 (+5) in the final round, while McGillivray shot an 81.
Sophomore Lauren Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) finished tied for 45th after following up Monday's 84 with an 86 in the final round.
Carson-Newman wraps up its fall season at the Flagler College Fall Slam played next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 24-25) at the Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, Fla.
