Volleyball sets slew of camp dates for July

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head volleyball coach Shannon Mincey has announced seven volleyball camps and clinics throughout the month of July geared toward players from elementary school through high school.

Camps begin July 15 with a pair of four-day camps for elementary school and middle school students.

Rising second through fifth graders can learn basic volleyball skills from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., while rising sixth through eighth graders can learn more advanced skills from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m., July 15-17. The middle school camp runs through the 18th, with the final day of the featuring round robin competition for the attendees.

The cost to register is 45 dollars and includes a free volleyball.

Mincey will then play host to a pair of clinics, one Sunday July 21 and the second a week later on the 28.

The July 21 clinic is for setters, hitters and liberos who are going into grades nine-12.  Only 100 campers are taken for this camp, so advanced registration is recommended.  The cost to attend is 45 dollars. Attendees must select which skill they want to work on before an hour of six-on-six play to conclude the camp.

The July 28 clinic is scheduled from 2-5 p.m. in Holt Fieldhouse and is for middle school-aged players who want to focus on serving, hitting/setting and passing.  Mincey instructs the players on a given skill for an hour to create well-rounded volleyball players.  The cost to attend is 15 dollars.

An overnight camp for middle schoolers is set for July 28-31.  The camp includes work on individual skills and team training.  Scrimmages, a coaches clinic, competitive play and demonstrations from current Eagles will also be featured.  The cost to attend is 170 dollars for players staying overnight in dorms and 140 dollars for those commuting.

A pair of team camps are scheduled from July 21-24 and July 24-25.  The prices to attend are 180 dollars for residents and 165 for commuters. For every eight players that signup, a coach or supervisor is permitted to attend for free.  In other words, if 16 players from a team or club signup, then two coaches can attend for free.
