Carson-Newman Volleyball Places Two On The All-Southeast Region Tournament Team
WINGATE, N.C. Carson-Newman saw two of its players named to the All-Southeast Region Tournament Team after advancing to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Tournament. Senior outside hitter Jessica Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior outside hitter Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) took home all-tournament honors as the Lady Eagles progressed to the round of 32 for the first time in school history.

its players named to the All-Southeast Region Tournament Team after
advancing to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Division II
Tournament. Senior outside hitter Jessica
Schachleiter (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior outside hitter
Carly Mozgai (Greensboro, N.C.) took home
all-tournament honors as the Lady Eagles progressed to the round of
32 for the first time in school history.
Schachleiter averaged 3.50 kills per set with a .268 hitting
percentage and added 3.50 digs per set as well. She tallied a
team-high 19 kills in Friday’s first-round match against
Catawba and completed the double-double with 17 digs. Saturday
night, Schachleiter had nine kills and 11 digs against Wingate, who
fell, 3-1, in the regional final to Flagler.
Mozgai tallied 3.00 kills per set on the weekend as she hit 24-5-59
(.322) to lead the Lady Eagles. She had 14 kills Friday against
Catawba and finished the tournament with 10 kills against Wingate,
hitting .400 (10-2-20) for the match.
Carson-Newman finishes the season with a 23-10 record, its third
straight 20-win season and fourth in six years under Head Coach
Shannon Mincey.
