Bio
2015: A Rimington Award winner and All-American. Evans is the second Eagle in four years to bring home the hardware, joining consensus All-America center Kevin Day, who won the award in 2012. Evans did something no other Carson-Newman offensive lineman has done since the C-N sports information department began tracking offensive linemen stats in 2012. Evans is the first C-N offensive lineman with a perfect gradeout on Mike Turner's 80-point scale. Evans did that three times this season (Shorter, Newberry and North Greenville). The senior center led Carson-Newman in knockdowns with 16 this season and is second all-time with 42. Evans has cleared the way for a 1,000-yard rusher in all three of his seasons as a starter for Carson-Newman. The Eagles rushed for 570 yards in the regular season finale – the fifth highest single-game tally in Carson-Newman football history – behind Evans blocking. Carson-Newman cracked 60 points three times and 600 yards of total offense four times behind Evans' road-grading capabilities. He has also blocked for two Harlon Hill Trophy finalists in Andy Hibbett and Damian Baker in his career.
2014: Started all 10 games at center for the Eagles. Wrapped up his sophomore season with a grade of 67.6 and 11 knockdowns. He graded out as a 73, his high for the year, on three occasions against Edinboro (9/4), Brevard (9/20) and Mars Hill (10/4). He had a career best three knockdowns in the mud against Tusculum (10/18). He helped clear the way for Harlon Hill Trophy finalist Andy Hibbett to rush for 1391 yards and for Carson-Newman to rank in the top five in the country with 357.5 rushing yards per game.
2013: Started all 13 games at center for the Eagles. Finished the year with an average grade of 68.5 with 15 knockdowns. High grade of 78 came against Brevard (9/21) and North Greenville (10/26). Had multiple knockdowns against Catawba (9/28), North Greenville, Wingate (11/16) and Lenoir-Rhyne (11/30). Helped clear the way for four rushers who all gained more than 700 yards and the nation's second best rushing attack at 352 yards per game.
2012 (Appalachian State): After redshirting at center for Appalachian State, Evans will play for Ken Sparks' Eagles in 2013.
High School: Evans played high school football for Gary Rankin at Alcoa. A 2010 Tennessee 2A all-state honoree and one of three finalists for 2010 Tennessee Class AA Mr. Football Lineman of the Year award, Evans helped lead Alcoa to state championships and a 44-1 overall record in three years as a starter. Evans was also a two-time all-county and all-district selection. He helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 46.1 points per game and 13.9 yards per rush as a senior. Personal: Evans is the son of Kim and David Evans. His father was an all-conference football player at Maryville College. Furthering his football lineage is his brother, Brock, who was an all-conference football player at Union College and now serves as a graduate assistant coach at Union. Evans is the second of four siblings (all brothers). Evans was on the academic honor roll at Appalachian State and carried a 3.46 GPA in his time in Boone, N.C.
