JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman standout Ashley Tipton has been named assistant women’s basketball coach, head coach Mike Mincey announced Tuesday. Tipton joins Mincey’s first-year staff. He was named the fourth head coach in the program’s history in April, and coached Tipton in her final season at C-N in 2008-09.

Senior guard Mandy Mendenhall (Kingston Springs, Tenn.) was named to the first team, while junior forward Zoriah Williams (Calera, Ala.) garnered second team honors and freshman forward Shannon Depew (Newport, Tenn.) was named Freshman of the Year and made the All-Freshman team.

Williams recorded her fifth consecutive double-double in an 85-78 win over Mars Hill Wednesday night at Holt Fieldhouse. The win stops a 2-game skid for the Lady Eagles. Carson-Newman is 11-14 on the season and 7-8 in the South Atlantic Conference. The loss puts Mars Hill at 15-8 and 8-7 in the SAC.
