William Alderman

Bio

2014:  Carson-Newman defensive end and 2014 SAC Scholar Athlete of the Year William Alderman has added to his litany of awards off the field with induction into the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame's Hampshire Honor Society.  The NFF Hampshire Honor Society is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career. Other qualifications include being a starter or a significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility (or a senior who has declared for the NFL Draft)  at an NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university; and meeting all NCAA/NAIA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. A total of 817 players from 278 schools qualified for membership in the society's ninth year, setting a new record for the number of schools represented in the history of the program, which began in 2007. Alderman was named a semifinalist for the NFF's National Scholar Athlete honor – the William Campbell Trophy. He was also an AFCA Good Works Team nominee and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection.  He produced two eight-tackle games this season.  He returned a fumble 78 yards for a score against Lenoir-Rhyne. Alderman had 47 tackles, five tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks in his senior season.  The five tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks are both the second highest tallies on the team. He is a four-time Dean's list representative and a two-time Eagle Scholar.  Off the field, Alderman was Carson-Newman's president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes

2013: Started all 13 games at defensive end in his junior year.  Seventh on the team in total tackles with 46.  He led Carson-Newman with 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.  He also picked off a pass, forced and recoverd a fumble and made four Qb hurries.  Set his career high for tackles in the regular season against Lenoir-Rhyne (11/2) with eight.  Career highs for sacks (1.5) came agasint Tusculum (10/19) and tackles for loss (2.0) against Shorter (10/12).  Picked off his first career pass at North Greenville (10/26).  

2012: Saw action in 11 games and made four starts in latter half of the year.  Made 21 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and one sack against Catawba.  Notched a pass breakup, quarterback hurry and forced fumble.  Made a season high five stops in a loss to Newberry (9/22) and had three tackles in a win over Tusculum (11/3).  

2011: Saw action in seven games, recording 12 tackles… returned one kick off for 10 yards... Had 11 tackles against Fayetteville State (09/08).

HIGH SCHOOL: Three-time All-County and All-Region performer (2008, 2009, 2010)…Named Defensive MVP in 2009 and team captain in 2010…Received 2008 Outstanding Defensive Back/Linebacker award…Recipient of 2010 Chuck Yoder Award, which goes to the most outstanding student-athlete…Also a track and basketball standout at Hernando.
