Bio

2019: Fairell has put his name in the record books on Carson-Newman's all-time interceptions list. Fairell finished his Carson-Newman career with 19 career picks, that's the third most all-time.  The seven interceptions Fairell has this year are tied for the third most for a single-season in school history. Fairell led the South Atlantic Conference in interceptions, he is eighth nationally.  Fairell has also broken up 11 passes this year and is ninth nationally in passes defensed.  He helmed a secondary that picked off 22 passes this season, the fifth most in a single season in school history.

2018: For a second straight year, Fariell earned postseason All-SAC honors as well as a spot on the Don Hansen All-Region team. Fairell has been a remarkable modicum of consistency for the Eagles. The corner finished the year with four interceptions for a third straight season to lead Carson-Newman and the South Atlantic Conference. Fairell turned in a multi-interception performance against Virginia-Lynchburg, the second multi-pick day of his career.  He also recovered two fumbles on the year to lead the South Atlantic Conference in takeaways. He earned TSWA State Defensive Player of the Week honors following his performance against Virginia-Lynchburg. Fairell is in a tie for eighth on C-N's all-time career picks list at 12 with Carson-Newman Hall of Famer Joe Fishback. His next interception will move him into a tie for seventh on the all-time list with Tim Foutz (13 picks from 1983-84). JJ Simmons sits in sixth with 15 from 1995-98. Fairell also had 50 tackles on the year, topping out at eight against Virginia Union

HONORS:

  • All-SAC First Team
  • Don Hansen All-Region
  • TSWA Defensive Player of the Week (10/13)

2017: A first team All-SAC pick, member of the Don Hansen all-region team, Fairell followed up a four-interception campaign as a freshman with four more picks as a sophomore, putting him in the top 10 on Carson-Newman's career interceptions chart through two seasons.  He was second in the league in interceptions as a sophomore. Fairell also forced three fumbles and recovered another.  He was named the South Atlantic Conference's defensive player of the week following his performance against Limestone.  Fairell earned the award following a seven-tackle performance in the Eagles' 31-20 win over Limestone that also featured a pair of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and an interception.  Both turnovers that Fairell generated were crucial to preserving Carson-Newman's lead. He grabbed his second interception of the season and the sixth pick of his career with 2:14 left in the third quarter and the Eagles up one. Fairell ripped in an Ivan Corbin pass at the C-N 10 and returned it deep into Saints territory.  His fumble recovery was arguably the more impressive play and without question sealed the win for the Eagles.  Jerko'ya Patton rushed for a first down for the Saints, but Fairell locked him up as he moved to the right sideline and ripped the ball away from him.  Fairell joins fellow first team All-SAC performer Sha'Heem Stupart as one of three players in the last decade with a fumble recovery, forced fumble and pick in one game.  A lockdown corner, Fairell's seven tackles against the Saints were his most for the season.  He didn't have more than three tackles any other game, a byproduct of teams' inability to throw the football to his side of the field.  Fairell finished the year with 26 stops.

Honors

  • First Team All-SAC
  • Don Hansen All-Region
  • SAC Player of the Week (10-9-17)

2016: Fairell led Carson-Newman in interceptions with four picks on the year.  He also made 27 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and had a sack against Brevard.  He ranked second in the South Atlantic Conference and top 25 in the nation with his interception tally.  He had the most interceptions in a single season for Carson-Newman since All-American Eien Jacob's five in 2013.  Fairell snagged two interceptions against Mars Hill. It is the 14th time since the year 2000 that an Eagle has had two picks in one game. Fairell joins Revel Coffey as the only freshmen since the year 2000 with two picks in one game. Fairell topped out at eight tackles in a homecoming win over Limestone (10/29).  He made six stops in the Eagles' opening day contest against No. 7 Humboldt State (9/1)

HIGH SCHOOL: Fairell starred at Miami Senior High School for coach Ivan Rosales.  As a senior, he hauled in 29 catches for 513 yards and five touchdowns.  Defensively, he produced 42 tackles, with a pair of fumbles forced and recovered.  He also had three sacks, a pick and two defensive scores. He earned All-Dade County honors following his senior campaign with the Stingrays.

PERSONAL: The son of Tawana Fairell, he intends to study business at Carson-Newman and selected the Eagles over Appalachian State, Florida International, Kansas and Northern Iowa.
