2019: Appeared in all 12 games with eight starts as a safety.  Smith was seventh on the team in tackles with 43. He grabbed a pair of picks on the year, including a game-sealing interception in the end zone in the first round of the playoffs at Bowie State (11/23).  Smith topped out at seven tackles in week two at Wingate (9/21).   

2018: Appeared in 10 games with nine starts for Carson-Newman as a safety.  Smith was sixth on the team in tackles.  He registered 42 stops on the year a pick and three pass breakups.  He made 25 solo stops, the fifth most on the team.  He had the second most tackles in his career in the season-opener at West Florida when he made nine stops, seven of which were solo tackles.  He turned in an eight-stop performance against Lenoir-Rhyne in the Eagles home finale.  Smith had his pick against Mars Hill, which he returned 23 yards to the hosue for the first defensive score of his career. 

2017: Appeared in all 11 games for the Eagles with six starts.  He was the Eagles ninth leading tackler with 38 stops.  He made 20 solo tackles, the fourth most on the team.  Smith topped out at seven tackles in the Eagles' win over nationally-ranked Catawba. he also intercepted a pass against the Indians. He also broke up four passes. 

2016: Made an impact defensively as a freshman.  The safety appeared in all 11 games and started 10 of them.  Smith was fourth on the team in tackles with 51, 36 of which were solo stops. He made a half tackle for loss.  Smith picked off one pass on the year while breaking up six others.  Smith had a career-best 10 tackles against Catawba (9/17).  He had six stops against Saint Augustines' (9/10), Lenoir-Rhyne (10/1) and North Greenville (11/5).  He picked off his lone pass against the Falcons. 

HIGH SCHOOL:  Ja"Quan Smith is a defensive back from Greenville High School in Greenville, Ala. With the Tigers, Smith recorded 95 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two interceptions, one punt return for a touchdown, one forced fumble and averaged 27 yards per return. He was a 2015 second team All-State selection. Smith was coached by Josh McLendon.

PERSONAL: Smith is the son of Michael and Teresa Smith and will study Physical Education. His cousin, Kenneth Carter, played football at Auburn.
