Carson-Newman Track and Field Takes Third Overall at Appalachian State

BOONE, N.C. - Carson-Newman University men and women's track and field teams each finished in third place overall Saturday at the Appalachian Pre-Conference Meet at Appalachian State University.
Carson-Newman took the top-five spots in the Women's 200m dash with Junior, Shauntae Miller finishing in first at 26.25. Cassie Smith, Jessica Azor, Anna Bauder and Jazzimine Hodges followed in second, third, forth and fifth-place, respectively. Bauder also finished in second-place in the 55m dash with a time of 7.98.
Jessica Azor led the way in women's field events earning second-place in the high jump, clearing a height of 5' 5".
In men's sprinting events, Dia Andrews finished in second-place in the 200m dash with a time of 23.55. Freshman TJ Davis followed close behind in third at 23.57. Brandon Lindley earned third-place in the 400m dash with a time of 54.05.
Mark Edwards also finished third in the 800m dash in 2:14.28, and Patrick Stump came in the same place in the men's mile, finishing with a time of 4:48.62.
"Each time we go to a track meet, we see tremendous improvement," Head Track and Field Coach David Needs said. "We have several men and women looking for ways to contribute."
The Eagles finished the day dominating in the 4x400m relay. The women's team featuring Cassie Smith, Anna Bauder, Madison Pickel and Shauntae Miller finished in first-place with a time of 4:24.78. The men's team of Cassadine Blassingame, Tyler Stewart, Aaron Seward and Brandon Lindley also finished in first-place with a time of 3:39.22. The team of Joshua Marsh, Christian Robinson, Colin Smith and Dia Andrews finished in close behind in third at 3:43.40.
Needs said he "was very pleased to finish the meet with strong wins in both the men's and women's 4x4."
Carson-Newman men and women both finished in third with 103.5 points for the men and 82 for the women.
The Eagles travel to Sewanee, Tenn. on March 1st for the Sewanee Indoor Meet.
