Eagles start strong at Last Chance Meet
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman track and field left the first day of the split weekend with first-place finishes, new personal records, and provisional qualifying marks this afternoon, May 11.

"It was a great day for our team," head track and field coach David Needs said. "It's always great to see so many fight and compete through the last meet".
At the LR Last Chance Meet, Sade De Sousa placed first in the women's 200-meter dash. She ran a personal best time in the event in 24.34. Lauren Tabor also grabbed a new personal best in 25.74. She finished fifth in the event. Amine Kasmi won gold in the men's 200 in 20.88. Kasmi grabbed a provisional qualifying time in the event. Ethan Blaylock finished 10th in 23.60.
Sydney McCarty finished second in the women's long jump with a 5.78-meter leap. Teammate Brooke Taylor placed third with a 5.71-meter performance. Kendall Whitehead competed in the women's triple jump and landed in fifth with a 11.20-meter mark.
During the women's 100-meter hurdles prelims, Kadidja Sangare finished third with a provisional qualifying time of 14.13 seconds. Sangare finished fourth in the finals for the event in 14.09 seconds. Tabor placed third in the women's 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.53.
"Our relay moved up to 14th in the nation," Needs said. "We were really proud of that group's effort today".
C-N men's 4x100-meter relay team finished second with a season-best 40.23-second performance. Shemar Patten, Kasmi, Lucas Besong, and Dawson Jones contributed to the provisional qualifying time.
Quacy Virgo competed in the men's 100-meter dash prelims and finished 11th in 11.49 seconds. Blaylock finished sixth in the men's 400-meter dash with a season best time of 51.23 seconds.
At the Lee Last Chance Meet, Brent Borden finished 30th in the men's 1,500-meter run. Borden ran a personal best time of 3:58.36.
"Tomorrow, we will take advantage of the true last day to qualify," Needs said. "We will bring our relay and a few individual competitors to improve our marks and get a few more to nationals".
