Bio

2016-17: Shaun Jones etched himself into the record books in his first season at Mossy Creek.  Jones produced 13 double-doubles on the year, doubling up the previous school record.  He averaged 12.5 points per game and was the SAC's leading rebounder with a 9.9 board per game average, he had 297 for the season.  Jones scored in double figures 19 times and crested the 20-point threshold on four occasions.  He had at least five rebounds in all but one of C-N's game and grabbed 10 or more rebounds 17 times.  His top outings came in an overtime win over Lincoln Memorial (11/22) and in the SAC tournament against Newberry (3/1).  Jones put up 26 points in both of those games. Against the Railsplitters he was 10-for-18 from the floor while he went 11-for-14 against the Wolves.  He snagged 11 boards against LMU and set a career high with 18 rebounds against the Wolves. He also handed out a career-best six assists against the Wolves. The 18 rebounds are the second most for a single game in the NCAA Division II era for C-N.  He is the only C-N player since 1992 with multiple 15-rebound efforts in the same season.  He yanked down 15 boards against Mars Hill (2/1) in Holt Fieldhouse.  His career high for steals came at Anderson (2/8) with five.  Jones shot 52 percent from the field for the year.  Carson-Newman was 16-1 in games in which he shot 50 percent or better from the field.

HONORS:

  • Matched C-N and SAC single-game record for field goal percentage with 12-for-12 effort at Newberry
  • Fifth most rebounds in a single-season in SAC history
  • Second most rebounds in a single game in C-N Division II history (post 1992)

PRIOR TO CARSON-NEWMAN: Shaun Jones transfers to Carson-Newman from Valdosta State and will have two years of eligibility remaining with the Eagles.  As a sophomore at Valdosta State he appeared in 17 games while starting a pair.  He averaged 10.5 points per game while shooting 50 percent from the field and 31.3 percent from three.  He also snagged 4.7 rebounds per game.  Jones dropped 30 on North Alabama on 62 percent shooting.  He turned around from that game and followed it up with a 27-point effort against Alabama-Huntsville on 71 percent shooting.  He hit double digits seven times and 20 points on three occasions. As a freshman, he played in 24 games with three starts.  He averaged 5.7 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He scored in double figures six times with a season-best 16 points against Carver.

HIGH SCHOOL: In high school at Central Gwinnett, he averaged 20.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.  He was the Region 8 6-A player of the year and the Gwinnett County Player of the Year.
