2022-23: The 40th player in the history of the Carson-Newman men's basketball program to score 1,000 career points, Brenengan wrapped up his Carson-Newman careeer with 1,115 career points and 221 career made threes.  He is one of four players in school history at the conclusion of his playing career to knock down more than 200 career triples.  He wrapped up his senior season averaging 10.3 points per game. He canned 51 threes, a fourth straight season with at least 50 triples made.  He was one of two players on the roster to start and appear in all 28 games.  Brenegan scored in double digits in 17 games with his fifth career 20-point game coming at Wingate (Feb. 22) when he went for 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting from deep.  He led C-N with 100 assists on the year, 3.6 per game, and a 2.1 assist to turnover ratio. Included in that are a pair of eight assist games against Mars Hill (Dec. 14) and Johnson (Nov. 28).  

2021-22: One of the steadiest point guards in the South Atlantic Conference, Luke Brenegan battled injuries en route to playing in 29 games for C-N with 28 starts.  He averaged 11.4 points per game with 3.6 assists and 2.9 rebounds.  Brenegan was named SAC Player of  the Week on Jan. 17 for his role in a pair of C-N road wins.  Brenegan started his week by resetting his career high with a 34-point outburst in an 84-81 win at Catawba. Playing in front of his mother, Brenegan's 34-pont night reset his previous career high of 22, set Feb. 13 at Catawba.  Brenegan was 10-of-16 from the floor, a season-best 5-of-7 from deep and a perfect 9-for-9 at the line.  He has made 17 straight free throws in Goodman Gym dating back to last season. Brenegan's 30-point effort was the first for C-N since Tripp Davis went for 44 against Benedict on Feb. 16, 2021 in Holt Fieldhouse.  He had 15 in the first half before scoring 19 in the second half, including 14 in the final 6:39 of the game. He followed that up with his fifth-straight double-digit scoring effort at Lenoir-Rhyne with a 10-point night.  It marks the first time in his career Brenegan has scored double digits in five straight games. He also added in two boards, four assists and two steals on 4-of-12 shooting. For the week, Brenegan shot 50 percent from the field and from beyond the arc, while averaging 22 points with two rebounds, 2.5 assists, and a steal.  That week was a part of a career-best nine-game stretch where Brenegan scored in double-digits in every game from Dec. 18 - Feb. 2. He also had a 20-point game in the SAC quarterfinals at Wingate (3/2).  Brenegan dolled out five assists on 10 occasions, topping out with a career-high nine against Mars Hill (12/15).  A noted three-point marksman, Brenegan buried a team-best 58 threes and shot 35.2 percent from range.  He had multiple threes made in 21 of his 29 games played andd three or more threes made in six games.  He reset his career high for rebounds against UVA Wise (1/5) with eight.  Brenegan led C-N in scoring in four games.  He is 9-0 in his career when he leads the Eagles in points.

  • SAC Player of the Week (1/17) 

2020-21: A 22-game starter at guard, Brenegan was a hyper efficient shooter and the Eagles' fourth leading scorer.  He averaged 10.8 points per game while leading C-N with 72 asssists to go with 2.7 rebounds per game.  Brenegan was more efficient from long range than he was from the field, shooting 41.7 percent from three and 41.6 from the field in general. He canned a team-best 50 threes, knocking down a triple in all but two games on the year.  He knocked down multiple threes in 16 games on the year, including four or more five times. His topped out with a 5-of-8 barrage against Anderson (2/3), which helped him earn both SAC and TSWA Player of the Week honors.  Brenegan averaged 17 points per game  for the week on a slash line of 59.3 percent shooting from the field, 60 percent shooting from beyond the arc and a perfect 100 percent effort from the free throw line.  He started the week Monday with a 15-point performance in a 91-55 shellacking of Limestone. He followed that up Wednesday with a stat-sheet stuffing against Anderson in a 95-59 win.  He had 19 points to go along with five assists, two boards and two steals.  The junior concluded the week Saturday in an 81-62 beating of Catawba with 17 points, including 14 in the second half to go with four boards and a pair of dimes dropped.  Brenegan has knocked down 12 of his last 20 shots from beyond the arc and seven straight free throws.  Brenegan scored in double digits 11 times with a career-high 22 against Catawba (2/13) in which he went 5-for-11 from the field, 4-for-7 from three and a flawless 8-for-8 at the charity stripe.  He knocked down 82.7 percent of his free throws for the year.   His 2.5 threes made per game are tied for the third-most in the SAC while his 43.5 percent effort from long range is the league's ninth best figure and fifth-best among players who can multiple triples a game.  His three-point efficiency ranks him 10th all-time for a single season at Carson-Newman. The Greenville, S.C.-native has handed out five or more assists on five occasions, and has led C-N in dimes dropped nine times.  He reset his career high for assists with eight against Mars Hill on Feb. 17.

2019-20: Brenegan stepped into a starting role for the Eagles as a sophomore, logging 25 starts in 28 appearances.  The Eagles' top three-point marksman, Brenegan averaged 7.5 points per game while knocking down 42 percent of his threes.  He made 51 long-distance dedications on the year to pace the Eagles in both threes made a three-point percentage.  He also averaged 3.6 boards per game.  Brenegan topped 10 points on 10 occasions in his sophomore year, heralded by a 21-point explosion against Warren Wilson (12/4).  A streaky scorer, 60 percent of his double-digit efforts came in a pair of three-came streaks - one from Nov. 13-20 and a second from Feb. 1-8. He handed out a career high sseven assists against Wingate on Nov. 30.  He matched his career high for rebounds twice, with seven against Catawba (2/15) and Warren Wilson.  He led C-N in assists on nine occasions.    

2018-19: Brenegan played in 11 games in an injury-shortened freshman campaign.  When healthy, he averaged 4.4 points on 44 percent shooting from the field and 42.3 percent shooting from three-point range.  He tallied two double-digit scoring efforts, first in a losing effort against Wingate (12/1) and later in a win against Newberry (119).  He had 11 and 14, respectively.  Brenegan tallied a career-best 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range against the Wolves. He also dropped off six assists in that game. He sat out the final 13 games of the year with an ankle injury.  

HIGH SCHOOL: Brenegan makes his way to Mossy Creek from  Fork Union Military Academy. Prior to Fork Union, he played high school ball at Wade Hampton High School where he played for Reggie Choplin.  He led the Generals and his conference in scoring, averaging 21.9 points per game.  He also chipped in five boards and three assists per game as a senior. He earned All-State honors, landing on the first team and was his conference's MVP.  He helped Wade Hampton to a conference title.

PERSONAL: Brenegan graduated high school with honors.  He is the son of John and Amy Brenegan. His younger brother Nick also plays at Carson-Newman. He is studying business at Carson-Newman.
