Carson-Newman Five-Seed at SAC Volleyball Tournament
The South Atlantic Conference has released the official bracket for the 2024 SAC Volleyball Tournament, which features Carson-Newman as the five-seed hitting the road to take on Mars Hill in the quarterfinals.
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The South Atlantic Conference has released the official bracket for the 2024 SAC Volleyball Tournament, which features Carson-Newman as the five-seed hitting the road to take on Mars Hill in the quarterfinals.
Carson-Newman has held almost every position within the SAC standings from first to fifth and ended the regular season fifth in the conference after a Friday night loss to Anderson and two Mars Hill victories over Newberry and Coker on Friday and Saturday.
The Eagles will take on the Lions on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. from Chambers Gymnasium in Mars Hill, N.C. If the Eagles win on Tuesday night, it will set up a semifinal contest in Rock Hill, S.C., against either No. 1 Wingate or No. 8 UVA-Wise.
The other side of the bracket features No. 2 Lenoir-Rhyne hosting No. 7 Tusculum and No. 3 Anderson hosting No. 6 Lincoln Memorial.
The meeting against Mars Hill will be the third of the season after Carson-Newman swept the Lions inside Chambers Gymnasium in September before MHU returned the favor, taking down Carson-Newman in four sets inside Holt Fieldhouse in early November. Carson-Newman last faced off against Mars Hill at the SAC Tournament in 2019 when Carson-Newman swept the Lions inside Holt Fieldhouse. The two programs have never played a SAC Tournament game in Mars Hill.
Carson-Newman fell in the first round of the SAC Tournament last season on the road against Lenoir-Rhyne in three sets, also in the 4-5 matchup. The Eagles have last advanced to the SAC Volleyball Tournament semifinals in 2022, a season in which C-N advanced to the conference championship and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
