McFadden gives C-N back-to-back TSWA Defensive Player of the Week honors
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – For a second consecutive week, Carson-Newman football has had a player named the Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association state defensive player of the week.
Last week Justin Long (Kingsport, Tenn.) snagged the honor, this week Xavier McFadden (Rock Hill, S.C.) has been lauded by the body.
McFadden made a career-high 12 tackles, including 10 in the first half, to lead the Eagles' defense to a 41-38 overtime win at 21st-ranked Wingate. It marked the third double-digit tackle performance of the season for the Rock Hill, S.C., native. McFadden also had double-digit tackles against both Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne.
The junior defensive back has registered 50 total tackles, fourth-best on the squad, with two pass breakups and one forced fumble this season for Carson-Newman.
