Bio

2023: Appeared in 10 games for C-N as a reserve DB and special teams member.  He made six tackles on the year.  Emory & Henry (Oct. 28) was the only game in which Payne made multiple tackles.  

2021: Appeared in seven games before suffering and injury.  Made 33 tackles on the year, including 18 solo stops.  

2020: Made the move to the defensive backfield and registered seven tackles, with six solo stops in Carson-Newman's lone spring game at UVA Wise.  

2019: Reserve running back appeared in three games for Carson-Newman. He did not register any statistics. 

2018: Did not appear in any games, redshirted. 

HIGH SCHOOL: The dual sport athlete at St. Georges Independent School, Payne almost competed with the Gryphons’ Track and Field team. He was named to the All-State team by the Tennessee Football Coaches Association while also garnering First Team defense honors in his region. A member of the Autozone Liberty Bowl All-Star team, he served as a team captain for the Gryphons during his senior season, recording 15 touchdowns on 1,300 yards with 40 tackles and five pass break ups.

PERSONAL: The son of Stacie and Bryan Payne, he intends to major in physical therapy at Carson-Newman. He was the Cory Horton award recipient for perseverance in high school.
