JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Five teams that are receiving votes in the GCAA preseason poll will hit the links Monday morning at the Sevierville Golf Club for the Smokey Mountain Intercollegiate.
The tournament, which Carson-Newman hosts, features no. 21 Belmont Abbey, as well as Coker, Lincoln Memorial and North Georgia, who are all receiving votes in addition to the Eagles.
Carson-Newman returns first team All-South Atlantic Conference golfer Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada). Kim-Moss fired a one-under 71 in the first round of the SAC Championships on the same course that he'll play Monday and Tuesday en route to a ninth place finish at the April event.
Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) will also get another crack at the course where he finished tied for 13th at the SAC Championships.
The Eagles finished fourth in last year's SAC tournament behind LMU, Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne. All three of those teams are in this year's SMI field. Only LMU is ranked ahead of C-N in the preseason GCAA poll.
Conference mates Catawba, Tusculum, Coker, Queens and Brevard help round out the field with Limestone, Shorter, Young Harris, West Georgia, Clayton State, North Georgia, Lee and King.
The men will play the par 72, 7,155-yard River Course.
