Wylie inks five in Fall signing period
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men’s golf coach Randy Wylie announced five new additions to his squad. All five new student-athletes reign from East Tennessee and include: Grant Bodie, Jake Headrick, Will Hurt, Alex Hutson and Anthony Marcinelli.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's golf coach Randy Wylie announced five new additions to his squad. All five new student-athletes reign from East Tennessee and include: Grant Bodie, Jake Headrick, Will Hurt, Alex Hutson and Anthony Marcinelli.
The Eagles' signing class joins Middle Tennessee State as the only two classes to sign two of the top-12 players in the state and the only program to sign five of the state's 50 top players.
Grant Bodie (Knoxville, Tenn) @Grant_Bodie: Bodie, the son of Ken and Lisa Bodie, joins the Cason-Newman golf team after graduating from Webb School of Knoxville. He is the 38th-ranked player in Tennessee. As a senior, he was a member of Webb's TSSAA Division II State Championship Team. During the summer before his senior campaign, he finished third in the TaylorMade Championships at Willowbrook Golf Club in Manchester, Tenn. Bodie garnered All-KIL honors three times at Webb, during his sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. As a sophomore, he was named to the All-Region and All-State teams. During his junior campaign, he was once again named All-Region. He plans to major in Communications during his time in Jefferson City.
Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn) @jakeheadrick: Headrick, a native of Maryville, Tenn., is the eighth-ranked player in Tennessee and comes to Carson-Newman from Maryville High School and coach Mike Driver. He also played basketball for the Rebels where he has averaged 10.5 points per game. Headrick was named All Blount County all four years of his high school career. His other high school accolades include: three-time District champion. a third-place finish at the Knoxville PrepXtra Touranment and seventh-place at the TGA Boys Tennessee Junior Amauter Championship. Headrick plans to be an Education major at C-N.
Wylie on Headrick: "Jake is another of the elite players in Tennessee. He possess excellent technique. He is a very good putter and has a high golf IQ."
Will Hurt (Powell, Tenn.) @Sir_William14: Hurt, the son of David and Judy Hurt and the 40th-ranked player in the state, will join the Carson-Newman golf team after graduating from Powell High School and was coached by Greg Bruce. Hurt's accolades include: two All-American Junior Golf Tour Wins, five Top-Five AAJGT Finishes, 2015 District 3-AAA Individual Third-Place Finish, two-time member of the All-KIL team , 2015 All- District selection, 2014 and 2015 Top-10 Individual Finish in the Region Tournament, qualified for the 2013 Men's State Amateur, qualified for the 2012 and 2014 Junior State Amateur. Hurt won the AAJGT Tournament at Sevierville Golf Club, Carson-Newman's home course, last April. He also served as team captain for the Panthers during his junior and senior season. Academically, Hurt was named to the Academic Honor Roll three times. He plans to major in Business at Carson-Newman.

Alex Hutson (Newport, Tenn.) @hutson_4: Hutson, the son of Allison and Allen Hutson, joins Carson-Newman after spending his last four years at Cocke County High School and was coached by Boddie Bible. Hutson served as the team captain for the Fighting Cocks and garnered All-Conference honors during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. As a senior, Hutson was the individual District Champion shooting an even-par 72. He won the 54-Hole Challenge at Sevierville Golf Club that has qualified him for a Tournament of Champions in Orlando, Fla. and he has also qualified for the Tennessee State Amauter. Last June, he also finished second at the TaylorMade Championshps Series at River Island in Golf Club in Sevierville, which propelled him to a 28th-place ranking in the state for the Class of 2015. His grandfather, Alex Fancher, played football at Carson-Newman.
Wylie on Hutson: "Alex has some very good finishes in Men's events and is a solid ball striker."
Anthony Marcinelli (Knoxville, Tenn.): Marcinelli, the son of Tony and Marj Marcinelli, was homeschooled and comes to Carson-Newman after playing the last two years with the Hardin Valley Academy Hawks. His high school accolades include being named: a third-place finish at the 2014 Class AAA-State Golf Championships, All-State during his senior campaign, a member of the 2014 First-Team All-Prepxtra golf team by the Knoxville News Sentinal and All-KIL team during his junior and senior seasons. In 2012, he was named the Tennessee Golf Association Junior Tour Player of the Year.As the 11th-ranked player in Tennesse, he finished second at the Tournament of Champions – Master Division and sixth at the 2014 Junior PGA Championship Section Qualifier. He plans to study Accounting.
Wylie on Marcinelli: "One of the best players in Tennessee, Anthony is a very straight driver with an excellent short game."
