WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Carson-Newman’s Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III Women's At-Large Team for NCAA Division II, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced earlier this month. Manis had a 3.78 grade point average at Carson-Newman as a Biology major. She will begin pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee this fall.
PACE, Fla. – Carson-Newman senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) shot an 83 (+11) in Tuesday’s final round of the NCAA D-II Super Regional Two to finish 38th with a 54-hole total of 241 in her final collegiate event. The senior, palying as an individual, was 2-over par on the back nine with eight pars to close strong, but stumbled out of the gate with a 45 (+9) on the front side at Stonebrook Golf Club.
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Carson-Newman senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) made five birdies en route to shooting a 2-over 74 during Tuesday’s second round at the 2012 NCAA D-II Women’s Golf Super Regional Two. Ray is 30th after two rounds in the 54-hole event, which is being held at Stonebrook Golf Club just outside of the Pensacola area.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Head Women’s Golf Coach Mandy Moore announced Tuesday that Amber Hardy (Franklin, Tenn.) has signed to play for the Lady Eagles beginning in the fall of 2012. Hardy, a standout at Independence High School in the Nashville area, comes to C-N after spending her high school career as a two-sport standout at Independence.
INDIANAPOLIS – Carson-Newman senior Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) has earned a spot as an individual qualifier to play in the 2012 NCAA Division Women’s Golf Super Regional, held May 6-8 in Pace, Fla. at Stonebrook Golf Club. Ray qualified as one of the region’s top four individuals not on one the tournament’s nine qualifying teams.
CONOVER, N.C. – Carson-Newman senior Jennifer Oliver is tied for fifth after a 156 (+12) and Lady Eagles are in fourth place as a team, following the first two rounds of 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships, played Monday at the Rock Barn Golf Club. The Lady Eagles shot a team 640 on the day. They are a stroke behind rival Tusculum (639) and eight strokes behind Lincoln Memorial, who is in second place after a 632 on Monday. C-N rallied from a 325 to open the day to shoot 315 on the afternoon.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman seniors Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn./Central HS) and Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn./Maryville HS) have been named to the 2012 Women’s Golf All-South Atlantic Conference teams and junior Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn./William Blount HS) has been named the the 2012 SAC Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Friday. Oliver and Ray have been major factors in the Lady Eagles spending much of the 2012 season ranked in the Top 20 nationally.

The Lady Eagles shot a team 315 (+27) and are 11 strokes back of Columbus State (Ga.) for fourth. Tournament-host Tusculum College is in first with a 3-over 291 in the first round.
CHARLOTTE – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles closed with a final round 329 to finish in fifth place at Wingate University’s Ralph Hargett Memorial Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the 5,800-yard Olde Sycamore Country Club. C-N finished fourth, two strokes back of Tusculum College, after dropping 10 shots from its opening round pace of 319. C-N finished 23 strokes back of champion Barry University and nine strokes behind second place Columbus State (Ga.).

C-N slipped to ninth in the 12-team field which featured eight of the nation’s top 12 teams. Its three-day total was 961.

C-N carded a 347 in the final round to finish the tournament sixth in the 10-team field. The Lady Eagles finished at 687 (+95) in the wet, windy, and cold event.
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 13 Carson-Newman Lady Eagles are in fourth place after an opening round 339 on Sunday at the 2012 Newberry College Invitational played at Moss Creek Golf Club. Sunday’s round was pushed back to the afternoon due to heavy rains. The course and conditions dominated the tournament’s opening round as no golfer finished at or below par. AASU’s Jenna Birch leads after a 75 (+3) in the opening round.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Two east Tennessee products have signed to play women’s golf at Carson-Newman College beginning in 2012-2013, C-N head coach Mandy Moore announced Tuesday. Bearden High School’s Kelli Pemberton and Powell High School’s Meridith Hawkins have signed with the Lady Eagles during the early signing period.
