Carson-Newman's Manis earns 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III honors
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Carson-Newman’s Melanie Manis (Louisville, Tenn.) has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District III Women's At-Large Team for NCAA Division II, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced earlier this month. Manis had a 3.78 grade point average at Carson-Newman as a Biology major. She will begin pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee this fall.

Manis had a 3.78 grade point average at Carson-Newman as a Biology major. She will begin pharmacy school at the University of Tennessee this fall.
The Louisville, Tenn. native earned the 2012 SAC Scholar-Athlete Award for Women's Golf. The award, which recognizes a combination of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership, are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives.
On the course, Manis was been a key factor in keeping Carson-Newman ranked in the nation's top 25 for much of the season. She finished in the top 10 at two events this season, including a third-place performance at the Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C.
The Louisville, Tenn., native was named an Academic All-American by the GCAA following her freshman season, and has been selected to the Carson-Newman Dean's List every semester she's been on campus.
Members of the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference.
This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2011-12 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
