No. 24 C-N's closes fall in 13th at Flagler Fall Slam
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A fifth-place showing for Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) highlighted No. 24 Carson-Newman’s time at the 17th Annual Flagler Fall Slam as the Eagles wrapped up their fall slate with a 13th-place finish.

Cummins landed on the All-Tournament team, just six shots out of first. This is the sixth top-five finish of her career and second of the season.
"Maeve has demonstrated a consistency and confidence this fall which I expect will continue over to the spring," Carson-Newman coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "Ellie [Haughton] has now shown that she is ready to step up into the top five travel team in the spring.
"Very disappointed with the rest of the team's performance. Seemed like a loss of focus and attention to detail. Difficult conditions and course but that means we need to double down and focus 100-percent. Lot of unforced errors, missed opportunities and low concentration. Finishing this way is disappointing because we had positioned ourselves well in the rankings up to this event. We definitely have some issues to work out this winter."
Once the first round finished up on Tuesday morning after rain suspended play on Monday, C-N was tied for sixth in the field with a 23-over 311. It added on six shots in the final round with a 317, moving its 36-hole total to a 52-over 628.
Cummins went two-over for the event with a 146. She led the Eagles through the first round with a two-under 70 on four birdies and a pair of bogeys. The sophomore was six shots higher on Tuesday with a round of 76. She shot for bogey four times on the day, three of those coming on par-4s.
She carded the third-most pars in the tournament with 26.
C-N's individual Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) finished eight shots behind Cummins with a share of 26th. The freshman carded rounds of 74 and 80 on her way to a 10-over 154.
Trailing Haughton by two shots was Rachel Watts (Newport, Tenn.) in a tie for 34th at 12-over. She entered the clubhouse after the first round with a four-over 76 on seven bogeys and three birdies. In the final round, the senior did not see a birdie, tacking on a pair of double bogeys with four birdies that came exclusively on par-4 holes, moving her 36-hole total to 156.
Matilda Frövenholt (Öjersjö, Sweden) went 15-over through the two rounds to tie for 54th. She closed the opening round at six-over, strictly on bogeys. The closing 18 holes saw her shoot a nine-over 81. The junior found two birdies in the round but added on seven bogeys and a couple double bogeys.
Reagan Kinnie (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) rounded out the Eagles on the leaderboard with a 23-over showing that landed her with a share of 78th. The senior was 15-over in the first round with an 87, going over par on 12 holes, four of those being double-bogeys. She cleaned up her scores in the second round with an eight-over 80 on six bogeys, a pair of doubles and two birdies for a 167 total.
Jayla Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), C-N's No. 4 for the week, withdrew from the competition.
Seminole State won the event at 16-over. It held a nine-shot lead on the rest of the field with Wingate taking second at 25-over and Barry in third at 31-over.
Missouri-St. Louis' Emma Thorngreen took the individual crown with a four-under 140. Barry's Noemie Pare finished in second at three-under while Seminole State's Minori Nagano and Eckerd's Laila Forstmane rounded out the top three at one-over.
