INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – For the first time since 2010 and the second time in program history, Carson-Newman women's golf has been selected as the No. 17 seed to play in the 2025 NCAA DII Southeast Regional on May 5th-7th in Gainesville, Georgia.
It will be the first regional for the Eagles' roster, including junior Ida Petersen, who sees it as another opportunity to show how far C-N has come under first-year head coach Alyssa Montgomery.
"It means a lot to me," Petersen said. "It's the first time making it to regionals for myself and the team… It means a lot to be able to play again, and I'm excited."
The Eagles will head south to the Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville, Georgia, following a regular season featuring five top-five team finishes. Their season-best finish came at the Battle at Hilton Head, where C-N finished second.
C-N faced tough course conditions and finished seventh at the SAC Championships. Since then, the Eagles have homed in on a few key aspects, with the potential for a regional bid on the horizon.
"We've been working a lot in Knoxville, where there are a lot of short-game areas," Petersen said. "We've been working a lot in fairways and greens, working on our short game… I also hope everyone is considering their mental health, because that is a big part of golf… Personally, I have myself, and that helps a lot."
The Chattahoochee Golf Club is unfamiliar to the Lady Eagles. However, the men's team competed in Gainesville in September and will serve as a key reference point for Petersen and the rest of the team.
"I'm definitely going to ask the boys for some advice," Petersen said. "I think they can help a lot to prepare us for playing on that course… Just getting to know the course a little bit more before we go there is really nice… Especially with preparing mentally, knowing the course before we play it."
The Eagles will head to Gainesville on May 4th before the three-day NCAA South Regional on May 5th-7th, with 18 holes set to be played each day.
