JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles women's soccer team will play their first home game on Wednesday Sept. 12 against no. 11 North Georgia at McCown Field at 6 p.m.
Carson-Newman is 2-2 through its first four matches, but are on a two-match winning streak. Last week the Eagles picked up victories against Milligan and Lees-McRae on the road.
"We worked hard for the Milligan win and we mimicked that on Saturday against Lees-McRae," said Carson-Newman Director of Soccer and head coach Richard Moodie.
Now the Eagles set their sights on the home opener at McCown Field against North Georgia, a team that is 5-0 and ranked eleventh in Tuesday's NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Poll.
"Real excited about going into this game," said Moodie. "We've got nothing to lose and have everything to play for. Perhaps we have an opportunity to get recognized nationally, so we're really excited about this game."
Carson-Newman is led in scoring by junior forward Bianca Hall (Newcastle, England) who scored both of the Eagles' goals against Milligan last Wednesday.
Freshman goalkeeper Kendra Ivins (Chattanooga, Tenn.) hasn't allowed a goal in the last 162 minutes between the posts for C-N, collecting a shutout against Lees-McRae Saturday.
Wednesday's match between Carson-Newman and North Georgia begins at 6 p.m. at McCown Field. An audio broadcast of the match will be available on www.cneagles.com.
