NASHVILLE – Carson-Newman sophomore slugger Katie Pritchett (Ringgold, Ga.) has been named player of the week by the Tennessee Sportswriters Association, the group announced Wednesday morning.
Pritchett was prodigious at the plate last week for the Eagles in doubleheader splits with UVA-Wise and Concord.
The sophomore pounded out 11 hits in 13 at bats for an .846 average with a trio of doubles, pair of home runs, septet of runs batted in and a triumvirate of runs scored.
The Ringgold, Ga., native went 2-for-3 with a walk in the opener of a doubleheader against UVA-Wise and collected three hits with a solo homer in the second game versus the Cavaliers.
The first baseman then pounded out a school-record matching three doubles in game two versus concord while going 4-for-4 at the plate in the series finale versus the Mountain Lions.
The four hits are a career high for Pritchett. With her five home runs this season, Pritchett is tied for the top mark in the South Atlantic Conference. She also ranks sixth in the league with a .415 batting average and is second with an .811 slugging percentage.
Pritchett gives C-N three of the last four state players of the week. Kristen Toppel (Roanoke, Va.) and Lindsay Dean (Coeburn, Va.) swept the state's player and pitcher of the week honors last week.
Pritchett and the Eagles are in action Wednesday afternoon at North Greenville for a 1 p.m. doubleheader. Those games will be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network at cneagles.com/live.
