C-N defeats Bears for first conference victory
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (5-4, 1-1 SAC) women’s tennis team won its first conference match against Lenoir-Rhyne (4-4, 0-2 SAC) 8-1 Friday afternoon.

C-N stole all three points in doubles play. "I loved the way," Carson-Newman head tennis coach Jean Love said, "we came out and played in doubles."
Stand and Tremblay took down Lapp and Zorica Djuric 8-4 in the no. 1 position while Sanderson and Brown sealed an 8-4 contest against Hurtt and Thompson at no. 2.
In the no. 3 spot, Ott and Guerreiro defeated Liner and Maggie Brown 8-0. The duo is now on a two match winning streak.
"In singles," Coach Love said, "we were solid as well."
In singles play, the Eagles secured five of six possible points. At no. 5 singles, Katie Brown (Douglasville, Ga.) swept Amanda Bryan 6-0, 6-0 for her fourth consecutive win.
"It is very difficult to win five out of six singles matches," Coach Love said. "But we did today."
At no. 2 singles, Stefy Stand (Ecuador) toppled Nateesha Hurtt 6-0, 6-1. Breanne Tremblay (Canada) clinched a 7-5, 6-3 conquest over Lela Sparks Thompson in the no. 3 spot, and Jennifer Ott (Knoxville, Tenn.) beat Meaghan Liner 6-1, 6-3 at no. 6.
Brooke Sanderson (Evans, Ga.) came out victorious at no. 4 singles after a third set tiebreaker against Lacey Lapp. The match finished 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
"We stayed aggressive throughout each match," Coach Love said. "It was a good team effort today."
The Eagles host North Greeneville tomorrow at 2 p.m.
