ROCK HILL, S.C. – Freshman sprinter Tia Davis has earned the first South Atlantic Conference Women's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week honor in its inaugural season, as announced by the league office today.
Davis, a native of Ooltewah, Tenn., topped two school records on the same day in the Eagles first invitational of the season. Four other school records were topped during the invitational for Carson-Newman.
"Tia has done an excellent job buying into our program," Coach David Needs exclaimed. "She works hard and is trying to improve at every practice."
The Bast-Cregger Invitational at Roanoke College at Kerr-Cregger Field House in Salem, Va. held events on two days over the weekend.
The first school record of the day to be broken by Davis was the 60-meter dash in which she completed in 7.98 seconds, finishing third in the event.
The previous record was held by teammate Samantha Gudger who completed the event in 8.08 seconds last season.
For Davis, she followed up with another record in the 200-meter dash and claimed a second-place finish with a time of 26.53.
"I just wanted to top the personal records," Davis mentioned. "I do know that if I can do that starting out, I can do more. I am pretty excited about the future and running here."
"It is a blessing to see a freshman who runs multiple races and sets multiple school records. This performance shows not only her potential but her dedication as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what is next for her this season."
