Lady Eagles leap to eighth in D2 Media Poll
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sporting a flawless 6-0 record, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles moved from No. 18 to No. 8 the most recent edition of the Top-25 of the Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sporting a flawless 6-0 record, the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles moved from No. 18 to No. 8 the most recent edition of the Top-25 of the Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA.
Carson-Newman also finds itself the top of the Southeast Region receiving a pair of first place votes in that poll. Only the Lady Eagles, Columbus State, North Georgia and Emmanual (Ga.) are still undefeated among regionally ranked teams.
The Lady Eagles have won six straight games for the first time since 2012 when that team won six in a row from November 10 to December 5. The last time a Carson-Newman team won more than that was the 2009-10 team that won 16 consecutive to begin the year and rise to No. 8 in the NCAA poll.
The only other program in the top-25 is No. 16 Columbus State as Newberry dropped out of the top spot in the region and the national poll.
Carson-Newman will travel for just the second time this year when they head to Salibury, N.C. for a meeting with the Catawba Indians at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
The Women's Basketball Division II Media Poll, sponsored by D2SIDA, in its first year of existence. The regional poll is released every Monday, followed by the national poll every Tuesday. Each region has two representatives that comprise the regional poll. The national poll has 16 voters – 2 from each region.
