JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Sophomore Kennadi King (Marietta, Ga.) is once again the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Female Swimmer of the Week. The distinction comes for King after her efforts as part of the latest meet for Carson-Newman swimming against Emory & Henry on Saturday. King was honored for the distinction this time around as a tie with Mars Hill's swimmer, Elena Massa.
Last Saturday, Kennadi King won the women's 200-yard freestyle with her time of 1:59.97. This time was sufficient enough for the event victory for the Marietta native, giving her a mere victory over second place and fellow Eagle, Summer Osborne, as Osborne came in with a time of 2:00.06.
King went on to sweep the freestyle events for women's side of the pool as she later would win the women's 100-yard freestyle in a time of 54.57. Finally, King would be the anchor leg for the winning women's 200-yard freestyle relay quartet. In the winning 200-yard freestyle relay, King was joined by teammates Rachel Peden, Linda Ungerboeck, and Chrisman Rand.
This is the second Bluegrass Mountain Conference Swimmer of the Week honor for King as an Eagle. She was honored as the BMC Female Swimmer of the Week last season after her wondrous performance in C-N's dual-meet against Mars Hill on Jan. 16th. This is the first Female Swimmer of the Week honor for C-N women's swimming since fellow sophomore Kyla Blakemore was awarded the distinction after the Eagles defeated Lees-McRae earlier this season.
In their last action on the season against the Wasps, the Eagles dominated from start to finish to wrap up their first victory in 2022. This was the third straight overall victory for the women's team over Emory & Henry, both previous results coming in part of a tri-meet in 2014-15 and 2015-16. Meanwhile, for the men's side of C-N, this was their first ever victory as they have never seen action against the Wasps prior to last Saturday.
Overall, C-N maintains their unblemished record when competing inside the MSAC in 2021-22, after defeating Milligan and Lees-McRae earlier in the fall, and now moving to 3-0 in home meets.
The Eagles were dominant once the whistle finally blew as they won 19 out of the 20 total races from the MSAC pool on the campus of Carson-Newman Saturday afternoon. The Eagles saw victories in every relay on Saturday as well as a standout performance from Brandon Meier and King.
King and the rest of Carson-Newman women's swimming will be back in action this weekend as they host the Mars Hill Lions for a 1:00 p.m. dual meet within the MSAC. The Eagles will also be honoring this year's senior class along with the work of their two graduate assistant coaches prior to the meet.
Be sure to keep up with the Eagles swim team all season long on cneagles.com and on all of C-N's social media platforms.
