Orange squad holds on to win Orange and Blue World Series Championship
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Despite a three-run sixth inning by the Blue team, the Orange team held on to hold off a late rally to take the overall Blue and Orange World Series title by an overall score of 17-14 on Friday, Oct. 22.

The Orange team took an early lead in the top of the second inning after a dropped strikeout by Matt Parkinson allowed Luke Francisco to reach first base safely. An RBI double by Braxton Baird allowed Francisco to score, giving the Orange squad the 1-0 advantage.
The middle innings would remain quiet for both teams, until the top of the fifth inning, when Micah Genter drove in Henry Jackson on an RBI single to swell the lead to 2-0.
The Blue team answered in the bottom of the sixth, as an RBI double by Jordan Griffin scored Ryan Potts to cut the Orange lead to 2-1. After drawing a pair of walks, an error by Jackson allowed Griffin and Andrew Carpenter to score, giving the Blue team the 3-2 lead and cutting the overall Orange advantage to 17-14.
Despite Griffin reaching base after being hit by a pitch with two outs, a Zach Boze flyout to Jacob Hoffman ended the game and gave the Orange team the fall classic championship with an overall runs score of 17-14.
Pitching wise, the Blue team saw Ryan Smithson get the start in the final game of the series. Smithson went three innings, allowing two runs while striking out three. Nolan Rogers made his first appearance this week for the Blue team, going an inning while striking out one and walking another batter. Jake Wright made his second appearance of the week, going two innings, allowing one hit, one run and walking one batter while striking out a trio of Orange team hitters. Jackson Harbin closed out the game for the Blue team, allowing just one hit in his one inning of work and keeping the Orange squad off the board.
Corey Wilson started the game for the Orange team, going four innings allowing two hits, no runs and walking two batters while striking out three. Layne Atkins went one inning in relief, allowing zero runs and striking out two Blue batters. Noah Maples went just 0.1 innings, allowing three runs, with just one of them earned, while walking two batters. Tyler Shaver closed out the game for the Orange squad, going the final 1.2 innings, allowing zero runs, plunking one batter and striking out three. Shaver finishes the series going 5.2 innings, allowing just one hit, one run and striking out nine.
For their efforts, the Orange team takes home the annual World Series trophy and will recieve free t-shirts and a dinner from Gondolier, a popular Italian restaurant in Jefferson City that is know for their pasta, pizza and wings. The Blue team will be given manual labor for their efforts as they will spend the next few days cleaning up and sprucing up the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.
