Davis snatches TSWA weekly honor

Davis wins the TSWA honor for a second time and gives the Eagles four such awards this season (Ren Dyer and Luke Brenegan have also been honored by the TSWA).
Davis helped extend Carson-Newman's winning streak to eight straight games with wins over Benedict 86-69, and Mars Hill twice 76-56 and 98-66.
The senior averaged 25 points with 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 4.3 steals, while shooting 67.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from long range.

Davis tallied a pair of 20+ point games on the week, including a record-book altering performance against Benedict.
Davis became the third player in Carson-Newman men's basketball history to score more than 40 points in a game and tied Chris Jones and Mike Ogan for the third most points in a game in school history with his 44-point night.
The senior also knocked down 18-of-19 free throws to finish behind Chris Jones for the second most free throws taken and made in school history.
Davis scored 19 in the first half before tallying 25 after halftime. He was clutch in the final five minutes, going 8-for-8 at the charity stripe. He scored 15 points in the final 9:15 of the contest.
Davis joined Charles Clark (54 v. Coker 2-25-17), Ish Sanders (51 v. Mars Hill 2-16-11), Chris Jones (44 v. Tusculum 1961), Mike Ogan (44 v. University of the Cumberlands 1974) and WA Wright (40 v. Georgia Southern 1-20-69) as the sixth Eagle to score 40 points in a game.
He followed that performance against Mars Hill Thursday by putting himself Carson-Newman's single-game steal leaderboard.

Davis matched Gribbles' seven steals that the former produced on Dec. 15, 2001 against USC Aiken. The seven swipes were a part of a 22-point, six-rebound, three-assist night for Davis.
That night he became the first Eagle to lead C-N in four stat categories since Reece Anderson did it against Coker in 2019.
This is Davis' second weekly accolade of the year. He was named TSWA Player of the Week Jan. 26 following the Eagles' wins over Bluefield State and Wingate.
