Eagles struggle on second day of Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – The 18th-ranked Carson-Newman men’s golf dropped a spot on the leaderboard after dropping 16 strokes from the first round with a 20-over 308 hampered the Eagles on the second day of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club’s River Course.

Senior Jace Devault (Bluff City, Tenn.) paced C-N with a two-over 74 during Monday's round while four other Eagles also tallied rounds in the 70s.
"Our whole team was very disappointed in our play today," coach Randy Wylie said. "They did not look like a well-coached team; I feel like it's on me. We will regroup and hopefully play much better tomorrow."
Devault and fellow senior Andrew Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) are tied for 10th on the leaderboard at three-over 147. Devault's 74 was his lowest score since in eight rounds of play; the Bluff City, Tenn.-native leads the Eagles' charge on par-threes with a combined score of one-under and averages 2.88 strokes. Hall followed up his first round two-over 74 with a three-over 75 for his two-round total of 147. He ranks fifth in the field with 26 pars after tallying 10 even-par scores on Monday. Each member of the duo moved up the leaderboard during the second round.
Junior Dalton Reese (Warrenton, Ga.) shot an eight-over 80 during his second round and fell into a tie for 39th at eight-over 152. Reese is tied with Devault for the team lead with five birdies through the first 36 holes. The Georgian is shooting even-par on par-threes with a 3.00 stroke average.
Freshman Jake Headrick (Maryville, Tenn.) and senior Nicklaus Kennedy (London, Ontario, Canada) are each tied for 50th with an 11-over 155. Headrick tallied a seven-over 79 for his second round of play, while Kennedy carded an eight-over 80. Fellow freshman Will Hurt (Powell, Tenn.) shot a career-low score of six-over 78 to move up to 69th. Hurt is shooting even-par with a stroke average of 3.00.
Murray State retained its lead in the team competition and holds a 10-stroke lead over Western Kentucky. The Racers' Jared Gosser and Preston French are the top-two players on the leaderboard respectively.
The final round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate tees off at 10:00 a.m. on the River Course at Sevierville Golf Club.
