Eagles set to open fall at Cougar Invitational
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The first tournament of the fall 2021 slate is set to tee off this week as the Eagles head to Columbus, Ga. for the Cougar Invitational.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - The first tournament of the fall 2021 slate is set to tee off this week as the Eagles head to Columbus, Ga. for the Cougar Invitational.
Randy Wylie and Carson-Newman are no strangers to the Cougar Invitational, as they took home a first place finish in 2018. However, the Eagles are unfamiliar with the new home of the tournament. Green Island Country Club will play host to the Cougar Invitational this year, and Wylie and his squad are optomistic headed into the action.
While the course has changed, the competition has not. Wylie says that the Cougar Invitational allows the Eagles to play "one of the best fields in the country." Wylie says that the experience of his team will play to their advantage. "They're comfortable playing the best of the best" Wylie said. "Florida Southern, the team that we beat the last time we were down there, was the defending national champion. And to beat them out for the title was very rewarding for those guys. They know they can compete with the best in the country."
Throughout practice leading up to their first event, Wylie likes what he sees from his guys. "We have been playing terrific. I have been really really pleased through the whole lineup. They have just worked really hard."
The Eagles have a lot of depth this year according to Wylie, he said "We have so many guys who have solid experience, and whoever gets in that lineup will be good, solid, and experienced players who will have gone through some fire to get there because of the depth of the team."
The Cougar Invitational will be broken up over two days with Monday playing 36 holes before the final 18 are played on Tuesday.
