Carson-Newman up one spot to second in latest Golfstat rankings
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Carson-Newman men's golf team continues to climb in the national polls, sitting at second in all of Division-II men's golf in the newest Golfstat rankings.
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Carson-Newman men's golf team continues to climb in the national polls, sitting at second in all of Division-II men's golf in the newest Golfstat rankings.
Carson-Newman is still the highest ranked team in the SAC, sitting one spot ahead of no. 4 Lincoln Memorial, no. 11 Limestone, and no. 23 Queens. They are the highest ranked team in the Southeast Region, jumping one spot over USC-Aiken. Barry University holds the top spot.
The Eagles are also ranked no. 2 in the Bushnell/Golfweek rankings and hold the top spot in the NCAA Southeast Regional rankings.
Individually, Jonathan Nielsen is still up two spots in the rankings, now sitting as the third-best golfer in all of Division-II. In play against the top 50 golfers in all of Division-II this season, just three have finished with a lower score than Nielsen has at events.
Teammate Alex Hodge held steady at 64th in this week's rankings. At the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate last week, Hodge finished tied for third after shooting a three-under 69 in the second round. The Knoxville, Tenn. native finished the tournament with an eight-under 136. His five-under and average score of 3.75 on par fours was tied for second-best in the entire field.
Jake Mynatt is up into the top-80 of the national rankings, up five spots to 79th in the nation. Mynatt finished fifth at Bobby Nichols after recording a four-under 68 in the second round. Mynatt ended the week with a seven-under 137. The junior finished tied for the best score on par fives, shooting an average score of 4.13 and seven-under. He also had 11 birdies during the week.
Right behind Mynatt is Jackson Tyler, moving up seven spots in the individual rankings to 80th. Tyler finished tied for 14th overall at Bobby Nichols after improving by one stroke in the second round, shooting a two-under 70. He was one of just 24 players to record an eagle at the Sevier Golf Club River Course.
Will Collins is up one spot in this week's rankings to 136th. Collins finished the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate last week with a four-under 140 and recorded the most pars of any individual in the tournament, finishing with 29 in his 36 holes played.
Bobby Nichols Individual Champion Elliot MacGregor sits at 144th. The freshman won his first career tournament individual championship, shooting a five-under 67 and rising three spots throughout the second round. The Shepperton, Middlesex native shot nine-under throughout the week, finishing with a final score of 135.
AJ Ewart of Barry sits in first as the number one individual golfer.
