Eagles Tied for 5th After First Round of SAC Championships

The Eagles are tied with Coker and sit three strokes behind fourth-place No. 21 Lenoir-Rhyne and five strokes behind third-place No. 40 Anderson. No. 4 Lincoln Memorial (-9) and No. 13 Wingate (-8) sit atop the field following the opening round.
Daugherty impressed in the opening round, carding a 71-stroke first round to finish the day in 9th at 1-under. The senior birdied early on the front nine before carding seven consecutive pars, entering the back nine at 1-under. On the day's final stretch, Daugherty matched a bogey with a birdie and stroked seven pars to finish the round at 1-under.
Freshman Owen Larson is tied for 24th after day one, stroking a 75 in the opening round. Larson bogeyed twice on the front nine but canceled them out with a pair of birdies and five pars, entering the back nine at even-par. On the back nine, the freshman shot three bogeys to add a trio of strokes to his tally but carded the other six holes at par to limit the damage and end the round at 3-over.
Elliot MacGregor joins Larson in 24th, shooting a 75-stroke first round. The senior had three holes over par on the front nine but carded a birdie on hole nine and added five pars, entering the back nine at 3-over. MacGregor carded a pair of bogeys on the back nine but stroked two birdies and five pars to end the round at 3-over.
Stefans Spruzs slides in tied for 35th, carding a 78-stroke opening round to finish the day at 6-over. The freshman opened the day with a birdie and carded four pars on the front nine, but four holes over par added to his tally, sending him to the back nine at 4-over. He carded a trio of bogeys on the back nine, but a birdie and five pars limited the damage, ending his day at 6-over.
Aidan Powter is tied for 48th after an 80-stroke first round, finishing the day at 8-over. Powter started the day with five straight pars, but three of the last four holes on the front nine were over par, sending him to the back nine at 5-over. Powter carded three holes over par on the back nine, but five pars, including a stretch of four straight and a late birdie, helped him limit the damage and end the day at 8-over.
Aidan Powter will be the first Eagle to tee off on Monday at 10:45 a.m., followed by Stefans Spruzs (10:54 a.m.), Elliot MacGregor (11:03 a.m.), Owen Larson (11:12 a.m.), and Nick Daugherty (11:21 a.m.). Live stats of round two will be on Scoreboard.
