Daugherty Earns All-Tournament Team Nod in C-N's 9th-place Finish at SAC Championships
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Led by a top-ten finish from Nick Daugherty, Carson-Newman climbed to 9th following a team-best 296-stroke third round, finishing the tournament at 42-over.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Led by a top-ten finish from Nick Daugherty, Carson-Newman climbed to 9th following a team-best 296-stroke third round, finishing the tournament at 42-over.
"I was happy to see improvement within our team," head coach Randy Wylie said. "We had three seniors, and this was likely their last event… It was great to see them go out, especially Nick [Daugherty] with a great round… Elliot [MacGregor] is all-conference, and Aidan [Powter] has been a great member of our team."
Daugherty paced the Eagles, carding another round under par with a 69-stroke third round, finishing the tournament tied for 6th at even-par and finishing as a member of the All-Tournament team.
"It's a great honor to represent Carson-Newman," Daugherty said. "We all battled hard today… It was great to have at least one of us up there."
Starting on the back nine, the senior carded bogeys on two of his first four holes but shot under par on three of the final five holes, including an eagle on hole 18 to make the turn at 2-under. Daugherty was stellar on the front nine, carding two birdies and six pars to overcome a bogey, finishing the round at 3-under and cementing himself in the top ten.
Elliot MacGregor tied for 18th, stroking a tournament-best 74 to finish at 9-over. MacGregor had a trio of bogeys on the back nine but carded back-to-back birdies and four pars to make the turn at 1-over. MacGregor had two holes over par on the front nine, including a double bogey, but two birdies and five pars limited the damage and ended his day at 2-over.
Freshman Owen Larson finished in 29th, carding a 5-over third round to finish at 12-over. Larson had four holes over par on the front nine, but a birdie and four pars sent him to the final stretch at 5-over. The freshman stroked six straight pars on the front nine before canceling a bogey with a birdie, and he ended the round with a par to close at 5-over.
Aidan Powter shot a tournament-best 76 in the final round, moving four spots to tie for 53rd at 23-over. Powter carded a pair of bogeys on the back nine but canceled them with two birdies and added five pars to make the turn at even-par. Powter added four strokes to his tally with four bogeys on the front nine, but five pars limited the damage to end his day at 4-over.
Freshman Ian Schoonmaker entered round three as a sub, carding an 81-stroke third round. He had two holes over par on the back nine, including a double bogey, but three birdies and four pars helped him make the turn at even-par. Schoonmaker added nine strokes on the front nine on four holes over par but carded a birdie and two pars to end the round at 9-over.
