Eagles drop 17 strokes, outshoot the SAC at Kiawah
KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – Carson-Newman’s women’s golf team shot a 310 – 17 strokes better from round one – and jumped up a spot in the standings to finish ninth at the Tusculum/Kiawah Island Invitational.

The Eagles had the best two-round tally of the five other South Atlantic Conference squads in the tournament.
"Practice pays off, finally!" Carson-Newman head women's golf coach Suzanne Strudwick said. "The team did great, stuck with our goal of executing & being 100 percent committed on each shot. I'm excited for a quick turnaround playing next weekend, hopefully we can carry this forward."
Meridith Hawkins (Powell, Tenn.) finished with a 74 (+2) for round two to finish in a tie for 23rd. Her 74 is the third lowest round for an Eagle this season and Hawkins second best round in competition this year.
Lauren Hodge (Jefferson City, Tenn.) improved three strokes with a 79 (+7) for the second round to finish with a two-day 161 in a tie for 38th. Mary Tunnell (Cordova, Tenn.) was a stroke back of Hodge in 44th after matching her 79 for the second round. Kelli Pemberton (Knoxville, Tenn.) matched Tunnell for 44th with an 81 for the second round, equaling her tally from the opening frame; as did Danielle Baiunco (Melbourne, Fla.), who improved six strokes with a 78 for round two.
The Eagles have a seven-day turnaround to play in the World Golf Invitational Monday.
