Men ranked No. 10 in the nation for the first time in program history

Carson-Newman men's track and field was ranked 10th in the NCAA DII Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Teams are compared with only marks from the current season. The Eagles racked up 103.22 points in the rankings based on the first four weeks of the outdoor season.
Most recently, Makanakaishe Charamba placed second in the men's 200-meter dash at the Tennessee Invite on Friday, April 7. He ran the event in 20.49 seconds and was followed closely by Devon Moore who placed third in 20.84.
Charamba received SAC Varsity Gems Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for his performance during the fourth week of the outdoor season. Teammate Courtavious Garrett was honored as the SAC Varsity Gems Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for the Eagles.
In the men's long jump event, Garrett snagged silver with a 7.16-meter leap. Camden Fritz recorded a season best performance with a 6.76-meter jump that afforded him 12th in the event.
Ian Salyer finished eighth in the men's discus throw with a 39.62-meter mark. Salyer also placed 18th in the men's hammer throw with a 35.48-meter mark, while teammate Matthew Campbell finished 14th with a mark of 37.72.
In day two of the Tennessee Invite, Matthew Blackmon set a new personal record in the men's 110-meter hurdles event with his fourth-place finish in 14.38 seconds.
In the men's high jump, Shane Connell grabbed fourth place with a 1.95-meter mark. Oluwafemi Richards came in sixth with a 1.90-meter performance. Luke Smith represented the Eagles in the men's shot put where he placed 10th with a 14.06-meter mark.
