Eagles rack up 21 All-Region honors
NEW ORLEANS, La.- The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field USTFCCAA Men's & Women's All-Region selections honored 16 Carson-Newman track and field athletes in 13 events on Wednesday, May 17.
NEW ORLEANS, La.- The 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field USTFCCAA Men's & Women's All-Region selections honored 16 Carson-Newman track and field athletes in 13 events on Wednesday, May 17.
Carson-Newman track and field totaled 21 All-Region mentions after the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released the 2023 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field All-Region selections Wednesday, May 17. The All-Region honoree list is released at the conclusion of the regular season. The top-5 athletes in each event from each region are honored, as well as each member of the top-3 relay teams. Carson-Newman men's track and field's 4x100-meter relay team was given the All-Region distinction for their performance during the outdoor season. Dawson Jones, Devon Moore, Siphosethu Boya, and Makanakaishe Charamba each run a leg in the event.
Charamba was also recognized in the men's 100-meter and 200-meter dash events. Moore earned All-Region honors for his 100-meter dash performance as well. Boya earned another distinction in the men's 400-meter dash along with teammate Ashwin Jood. Matthew Blackmon earned All-Region honors in the 110-meter hurdle event.
Shane Connell, KJ Kemp, and Oluwafemi Richards earned their All-Region distinction in the men's high jump. Courtavious Garrett was mentioned for his triple jump performances throughout the season.
On the women's side, Sade De Sousa earned All-Region status in the 100-meter dash, and Tytiana Wilson was recognized for her performance in the women's 400-meter dash.
Kadidja Sangare was named an All-Region honoree for her 100-meter hurdle and long jump events. Sydney McCarty was also recognized in the women's long jump. Morgan Stanton was mentioned for her high jump performance, and Abby Owens was listed for the women's pole vault.
