Verrol Sam Takes Home SAC Athlete of the Week Honors
Carson-Newman Track and Field athlete Verrol Sam was honored as the SAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman Track and Field athlete Verrol Sam was honored as the SAC Male Field Athlete of the Week after his performance at the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem.
Verrol Sam earned his second Athlete of the Week honors of his career after setting a new personal record in the long jump last weekend at the Finn Pincus Invitational in Salem, Va. Sam found a new best distance of 7.49m, which is the eighth longest across all Division II long jump attempts this season.
The effort gave Sam the win at the Finn Pincus Invitational in the event. While there, Sam also competed in the high jump, taking home the top spot, clearing a height of 1.98m.
Despite the PR distance in the long jump, Sam knows he can still be better.
"We always try for excellence, but you're not always going to be perfect," Sam said. "I know it was a good jump; I know I could have done better, but we have a meet this weekend, so hopefully, I can execute that."
Carson-Newman Track and Field will return to action on Friday, January 24, at the VMI Invitational in Lexington, Va.
