Eagles set to take part in anual Blue/Orange meet
The Carson-Newman cross country runners will take part in the annual Blue/Orange intrasquad meet this Saturday at Green Farm in preparation for the regular season.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman cross country runners will take part in the annual Blue/Orange intrasquad meet this Saturday at Green Farm in preparation for the regular season.
"The Blue & Orange meet is pretty much celebrating our summer training," coach Tony Parrilla said. "We are going to have a lot of fun and I'm going to really try to energize it more."
The function will serve as a practice with a meet-like atmosphere, as the teams will sport the different uniform combinations.
Parrilla decided to have a little fun when thinking on how he would split up his teams.
"We are actually going to have a draft this year," Parrilla said. "The two team captains Stump (Patrick) and Aiyana Martino are going to have some fun with their teams."
Patrick Stump (Leesburg, Va.) will captain the Blue team and Aiyana Martino (Kallspell, Mont.) will lead the Orange team during the intrasquad meet.
Stump garnered the first overall pick and took newcomer Hannah Green (Talbott, Tenn.) with the selection. Martino countered with Nick Guerra (Richardson, Texas.), to go second overall.
Each team finished with an even number of guys and girls, along with some injured teammates who will act as coaches.
The Carson-Newman track team will also be in attendance and will take part in post-race activities. Eagle alumni Andy Swann, Mark Edwards, Vanessa Bray will also be involved throughout the morning.
"I got the guys and the girls really hyped up for this," Parrilla said. "I think the guys are really, really going to embrace it and have a lot of fun with it."
