Eagles slip to tie for 17th at NCAA Super Regional
CONOVER, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles shot a team 304 (+16) in Tuesday’s second round to slip to a tie for 17th at the 2012 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Super Regional. The Eagles are 24-over for the tournament and are tied with Georgia Southwestern through 36 holes. Wednesday’s final round tee times begin at 7:30 a.m.

The Eagles are 24-over for the tournament and are tied with Georgia Southwestern through 36 holes. Wednesday's final round tee times begin at 7:30 a.m.
C-N is chasing the top of the field, which includes tournament leader Georgia College and State at 4-over with a total of 580. The top five teams in the field qualify for next week's NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky. Florida Tech is second (+5), while UNC Pembroke, Barry University, and USC Aiken are all at (+8), 16 shots ahead of C-N to qualify.
The middle of the field remains tight, C-N is 10 shots back of Barton, Eckerd, and Florida Southern, who are all tied for seventh.
Individually, senior Liam Ashby fired the Eagles low round on Tuesday. He carded a 74 with three birdies in his round. He is tied for 73rd.
Junior Gavin Hay fell to 55th with a 78 (+6) in his round. He birdied the eighth, his 17th hole of the day for his only birdie of the round.
Sophomore Jonathan Kim-Moss birdied his final two holes of the round to scrap out a 77 (+5) and is 39th through 36 holes, while sophomore Michael Horenkamp is after his second 75 in as many rounds. He had three birdies and shot a 37 on his back nine to tie for 49th.
Eckerd (Fla.) sophomore Jeff Evanier (Weston, Conn.) is the individual leader with a six-under-par 138. Wingate will start the third and final round with tee times beginning at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
The Eagles tee off at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
