ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a stellar week at the plate, Carson-Newman's Brooklyn Lucero (Loma, Colo.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Following Hayden Dye (Knoxville, Tenn), Lucero becomes the second consecutive Eagle to earn the honor.
The Loma, Colorado native is the fourth Eagle to earn the Player of the Week award, joining Dye, Macauley Bailey (Cross Plains, Tenn.), and Lorelei Spradlin (Blacksburg, Va.).
Lucero earns the Player of the Week honor after a 9-of-13 week at the plate, driving in ten RBIs in C-N's 4-0 start to South Atlantic Conference play. The bulk of Lucero's production came in the doubleheader sweep over Lincoln Memorial, going 3-of-4 at the plate with a three-run home run in game one before a 3-for-3, two home run game two.
Lucero's three home run day helped C-N grow its home run total to 38, a tally that leads Division II softball.
Lucero and the Eagles face a big week ahead, traveling to Wingate on Wednesday before a road trip to Anderson on Saturday, as the Eagles look to build on an eight-game winning streak.
