JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Riding a four-game winning streak to close non-conference play, Carson-Newman (13-7) looks to stay hot in its first South Atlantic Conference matchup, welcoming Newberry (10-15) to The Vick on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
The Eagles have played well of late, winning their last four. In those four games, C-N has scored double-digit runs in three of the four contests. Similarly, the Eagles have held opposing offenses to two runs or less in three of four during the four-game stretch.
C-N is returning to The Vick after a doubleheader sweep over Southern Wesleyan, earning its sixth run-rule win in game one before an 18-17 slugfest win over the Warriors in game two. The Eagles hit three home runs in each game, as Macauley Bailey (Cross Plains, Tenn.) became Carson-Newman's new career home run leader, mashing two home runs in game one and the record-breaking 36th of her career in game two. The two contests mark C-N's fifth and sixth double-digit scoring efforts in 2025.
C-N welcomes a Newberry squad with ups and downs through 25 games. Starting the season 1-2 with a win in the middle game of a three-game set against Columbus State, Newberry dropped its next seven games to fall to 1-9. However, the Wolves have turned things around, going 9-6 since, winners of their last three with a three-game sweep over Chowan.
Newberry is ninth in the South Atlantic Conference in batting average, hitting .304 as a team. Comparatively, C-N sits second in the conference with a .371 team average. The Wolves rank third in the league in hits but have played the most games. Newberry and C-N rank near the bottom of the league in terms of team ERA. Newberry is 12th in the SAC with a 5.36 team ERA. C-N is in 11th, holding a 5.19 team ERA.
Haidyn Campbell is the top hitter in the Newberry lineup in batting average (.397), tallying 27 hits in 68 at-bats. The junior has a home run and 11 RBIs through 25 starts. Maddy Staples is the Wolves' leading home run and RBI threat, mashing four home runs and accumulating 17 RBIs in non-conference play. Mady Brown (13), Leah Evans (13), and Ella Stone (11) are the other three Wolves with double-digit RBI counts through 25 games.
In the circle, three arms accounted for 153 of Newberry's 162 innings of work so far in 2025. Lindsay Foster leads the staff in innings pitched (59.1), holding a 5.43 ERA and a 5-5 record in 11 starts. Lex Glemaker holds a team-best 3.69 ERA in ten appearances but has only been credited one win in seven starts, holding a 1-5 record. Natalie Westcott has tossed 50 innings, posting a 5.32 ERA and a 4-4 record in seven starts. Opposing teams have succeeded against the Newberry arms, hitting .337 against the Wolves' staff.
Carson-Newman leads the all-time series 48-19 as the two teams prepare to square off for the 68th and 69th times on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles have won four of the last five, including a walk-off win in the first round of the 2024 SAC Tournament.
It was a pitcher's duel between Lex Glemaker and Emma Frost, but C-N got the game's decisive run on a Brooklyn Lucero (Loma, Colo.) walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 8th.
C-N and Newberry will kick off SAC play at The Vick on Tuesday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
