With the spring just around the corner, Carson-Newman's men's golf team will begin its 2013 season at The Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in Fleming Island, Florida, on Monday, Feb. 11.
Head coach John Minor said he is eager to see his team not only play this season, but get another crack at teams the Eagles saw in the fall.
The Eagles ended their fall season at the Rollins Invitational, where they finished in 11th place.
"The men's team has been diligently, working hard in spite of the weather difficulties they have seen these past few months," Minor said. "Despite the weather, each member has been very focused on reaching high goals this spring season."
"With seniors Gavin Hay (Glasgow, Scotland) and Michael Horenkamp (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) playing really well right now, I expect them to have a strong tournament and help this team in the right direction."
Along with the two seniors, juniors Jonathan Kim-Moss (Mississauga, Canada) and Rafael Jackson (Rutledge, Tenn.) are expected to contribute greatly to their team's success.
"Jonathan had a great fall season and has a tremendous amount of potential to accomplish great things this spring," Minor said. "Rafael is also much more comfortable after his fall season having shot a 69 at the Smoky Mountain invitational. Both players will contribute to our team in a very positive way."
Minor also believes that the young players on the team will find their way. He indicated that if they find their role, then the men's team may repeat its invitation to the national tournament from last year.
With the opening tournament for the spring Monday, Minor said he believes C-N's momentum will start up and carry on throughout the rest of the season.
"We have a great bunch of young men on this team and I look forward to what they can do this spring," Minor said.
The Eagles will begin round one on Monday at the Fleming Island Golf Club.
