SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Following a close one-point lead by the end of Friday's opening match, the Blue team edged the Orange side on Sunday with a 7.5 - 6 victory in a two-day intrasquad match between the men's and women's golf teams.
Friday's outing featured alternate and straight scramble matches between the front and back nines at Patriot Hills while the teams chose which of the two formats they each wanted to play on Sunday at the Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Club. Women's golf head coach Suzanne Strudwick was at the helm for the Orange squad during the matches while men's golf coach Randy Wylie led the Blue side.
The first four matches on both sides took a point each through the opening day, leaving the deciding points to come in the fifth group. Blue's Alec Lambert (Palm Harbor, Fla.) and Jordan Bouyoucas (Parrottsville, Tenn.) pushed Wylie's team into the lead with 1.5 points, holding the Orange pair of Aaron Johns (Sevierville, Tenn.) and Aynsleigh Martin (Knoxville, Tenn.) to half a point.
On Sunday, Strudwick's Orange side picked up a pair of wins in the final round but it was not enough to take down the Blue crew. Alex Hodge (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Maeve Cummins (Waringstown, Northern Ireland) defeated Blue's Will Collins (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Hannah Holland (Sale Creek, Tenn.) in the first match grouping. At the No. 3 spot, Ethan Rimmer (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Ellie Haughton (Lincolnshire, England) won the point over Fergus Robinson (Towcester, England) and Ana Herrera (Mérida, Mexico).
Lambert and Boyoucas were successful once again for the Blue team in the final round. Avery Alexander (Christiansburg, Va.) and Allie Thomas (Mid Glamorgan, Wales) joined in on the winning ways for Wylie's unit, taking down Jackson Tyler (Wilmington, N.C.) and Jayla Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.) in the second flight. Zach Young (Crossville, Tenn.) and Olivia Williams (Cleveland, Tenn.) were also successful in the No. 4 match over Orange's Antonio Farinella (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Maddie Raine (Manchester, England).
